Personal protective equipment guidance for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 should be adapted to meet the needs of dairy farm workers

Share:

Bagdasarian et al. (2024) commented on the lack of use of the recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) in dairy farm workers in Michigan. The authors recommended adjusting the guidance for protective behaviours and PPE:

  • N95 respirator and goggles are preferable, but a surgical mask with a face shield was acceptable
  • Avoid eating and drinking in the milking parlor
  • Change clothing after working at the farm
  • Wash hands before eating and drinking
