Novel human-type receptor-binding H5N1 virus in live poultry markets, China

In January, 2024, findings from a surveillance study near Poyang Lake in southern China revealed a high prevalence of novel H5N1 viruses that showed enhanced binding afnity for human-type sialic acid receptors (appendix pp 3–4, 15).
