There has been one case of equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) myeloencephalopathy at a boarding/training facility. The facility had a multi-day
history of multiple horses with ‘swollen legs’. One of those horses (a 12 year-old thoroughbred cross mare) subsequently developed ataxia on Monday, April 8th and tested positive for EVH-1 on an in-clinic test on April 9th. Confirmatory testing is being arranged at the Animal Health Centre, BC Ministry of Agriculture. Facility managers are implementing voluntary movement restrictions as well as biosecurity measures under veterinary supervision.
