Canine distemper in British Columbia, April 6, 2022
Canadian Animal Health Surveillance System
Share:
A 17 week old German Shepard dog that was purchased from a breeder in the Fraser Valley presented to a veterinary clinic on April 6, 2022 with severe neurologic and skin disease. The dog was euthanized. PCR for distemper virus was positive. Canine distemper is a vaccine preventable disease. Locally acquired distemper has been uncommon in southern British Columbia for many years so this case is unusual.
